Westminster Re-Elect Faith Winter for

I am excited to run for re-election to Westminster City Council because I want to continue bringing my neighbors together to take a hard look at the issues that affect our city, to solve problems together, and to create positive change to benefit all Westminster residents.

Faith

I have spent my entire career and the last four years bringing people together. Good ideas come from people like you, people who care about their community. These ideas become reality when good people work together towards common goals.

I will continue to roll up my sleeves and work hard on the issues facing our city. By working together we have helped local businesses survive the economic downturn, created an arts community in South Westminster, protected our open spaces and environment for generations to come, and so much more. Our work is not done, which is why I am asking for your vote this fall.

My priorities for the next four years include:

  • Revitalization of the old Westminster Mall and continued revitalization of South Westminster.
  • Local business retention and recruitment.
  • Transparent government and an involved citizenry.
  • Environmental protection.

Successes Goals &

Great Neighborhoods

 

I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the Westminster we leave to our children and grandchildren is as great of a community to live in as it is today.

  • Aggressively, worked towards meeting our open space goal to have 15% of the city’s land be open space. Currently, we are at 13.7%.
  • Made energy efficiency upgrades at all of the city facilities reducing energy consumption and saving the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • Installed solar panels on four city buildings and installed public education displays on the use of the solar power.
  • Increased the use of our reclaimed water system and also implemented numerous programs for water conservation such as xeriscaping workshops and toilet rebates.
  • Worked to create a bicycle master plan to lay the road map of becoming a more bicycle friendly community.
  • Found innovative ways to make recycling easier and more convenient for our citizens.

Moving forward Westminster needs to protect our air, land and water for our citizens today and the citizens of the future.

 

Robust Economy

Over the past four years we have faced the worst economic downturn I have seen in my lifetime. It is during difficult times that we must support our local home grown businesses.

  • Expanded the business retention program to ensure Westminster businesses stay in Westminster. The city helps find new locations, solve problems and connect local businesses with essential resources to stay in the city.
  • Created and Expanded local business programs such as a capital grants program, scholarships for employee training and energy efficiency grants to help our local businesses grow and expand.
  • Worked hard to create new jobs by revitalizing South Westminster and creating an arts community in South Westminster, worked to provide the catalyst for redevelopment of the mall and recruitment of new primary jobs.

As the economy slowly begins to recover Westminster must continue to focus efforts on revitalizing the mall, retaining and expanding our local businesses and recruiting primary jobs.

Strong Community

A top priority of mine has been to create a strong community by making sure Westminster has strong, vibrant neighborhoods and citizen’s feel connected to a transparent government.

  • Expanded and improved the public outreach program by expanding locations, times and increasing the number of people who are invited and can also attend.
  • Committed to transparency in government especially by reaching out to citizens about the budget process and how to be involved.
  • We have worked hard to make sure our parks, recreation and library programs meet the needs of the community. Including, creating the Armed Forces Memorial Garden, supporting after school programs, creating the first top spin court in the country and placing emphasis on library programs.
  • Worked with Adams County Housing Authority and other non-profits to increase affordable housing in Westminster for working families and seniors.
  • Supported a tremendous volunteer program that involves thousands of citizens and saves the city tens of thousands of dollars in expenses.
  • Made significant strides in revitalizing the Westminster Mall to create a new downtown district including the recent purchase of the mall.
  • Preserved the City’s Domestic Violence program which has extremely good results, ensuring that all our citizens including the most vulnerable, feel safe.

As we look to the future Westminster must continue to create safe communities where people can live, work, play and continue to make ourselves open and available to have an involved citizenry.

Fiscal Responsibility

The City of Westminster also has to ensure that we continue to provide a high level of services while being fiscally conservative.

  • We created a General Fund Stabilization Reserve which is essential to protect Westminster from the volatility of relying heavily on sales tax.
  • We carefully completed an analysis of core services to ensure that Westminster has the resources to continue to provide exceptional services to our citizens.
  • We prioritized funding infrastructure to ensure that Westminster has a safe and reliable sewer and water system, has the necessary water to meet future needs and that current and future transportation needs will be met.
  • Finally, the city has leveraged partnerships extensively to make every dollar stretch farther.  Partnerships for buying open spaces, create affordable housing and work on transit solutions.

Moving forward we need to continue to be fiscally conservative, transparent and and innovative in finding solutions to ensure that Westminster continues to be a great community.

My Biography

Faith Winter has spent her entire career bringing people together to make positive change. She has worked in homeless shelters and board rooms and always gets results. Faith’s parents a nurse and a teacher ingrained in her at an early age the importance of service and giving back to her community.  Over the last decade Faith has empowered thousands of people to become civically involved and participate in democracy.

Pumpkin PatchIn Westminster, she has worked with non-profits to create affordable housing, local businesses to create jobs and local residents on community improvements.  We need someone who can listen to and recognize the needs of our friends, neighbors, and citizens of our city. We need someone who can build bridges among diverse partners. As your City Councilperson, Faith has used her skills of collaboration, facilitation, and coalition building to bring our community together to tackle important issues like public safety, economic development, and parks and open spaces.  Faith has worked hard to make Westminster a great community.

As a fifth generation Coloradan, Faith has seen firsthand the rapid growth in Colorado and Westminster. Faith understands that growth is important for a strong economy, but it needs to be done in a smart way that promotes healthy, vibrant neighborhoods and invests in Westminster’s human capitol. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to our community by working to support local businesses and public transportation. As your City Councilperson, Faith will work to preserve the character and quality of life of Westminster for future generations.

Faith has a proven track record of bringing people together to tackle difficult issues. She has brought a diverse group of businesses together, from gun shops to donut shops, and environmental groups to make light rail a reality for Westminster. She has worked with churches and non-profits to increase affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity and farmers and ranchers together with college students to make Colorado a leader in renewable energy.

Westminster needs someone who can bring people together and build these relationships between diverse partners. As your City Councilperson, Faith has the energy and willingness to roll up her sleeves and make Westminster a stronger city.

Hard work is nothing new to Faith, from working on policy at the state and federal level to protect our air, land and water to training the next generation of women leaders through her role as the National Field Director for The White House Project, to building diverse coalitions for multiple grassroots programs. The Final Stretch

We are in the final stretch. It is only 6 days until mail ballots are sent out. We have run a great campaign, we have had a large number of friends donate to the campaign, over 75 people have volunteered on the campaign and now it is time to sprint to the finish line! I know that to ensure our local businesses and our families succeed in the next four years we need to elect someone that will listen, be accountable and work hard for us. I will be that person but only with your help!
